Anthony starts taking on a more fatherly role in Cooper's life, leading him to take Cooper to the hopsital for a check-up when he starts feeling a pain in his abdomen. There, they meet Dr. Burble, a muffin-loving polar bear pediatrician, who discovers Cooper needs surgery... again. This time, Anthony has to juggle the feelings of being a dad, and a doctor, and maintain his compsure to support COoper through the process.
Anthony elects to take a backseat at All Species, and promote a new leader at the clinic. He chooses Teddy to take on the role, and helps prepare him for the responsibilities of running the office.
Anthony begins working wit Dr. Burble more often, which leads to him acting strangely around him while trying to understand the new emotions he feels when working alongside his new colleague.
Cooper and Koda decide to start helping out at the hospital more often, using it as a way to further their learning of the medical field and work alongside their friends.
Anthony finally decides to muster the courage to ask Burble out to dinner, and use it as an outlet to finally express his feelings. Surprisingly, the offer goes better than expected, and leads to a heart-to-heart conversation that could change the way these two view their lives forever.
The announcement of Anthony and Burble's relationship thrusts the entire hospital into a state of chaos and hysteria. They then have to face serious allegations from The Board, which ultimately put their careers ion the line, and they must band together to defend both their feelings and their honor, and find a way to make their relationship work.
Charlie starts dealing with feelings of abandonment, loneliness, and a hint of jealousy, when Anthony starts spending a significant more amount of time with Barry and less time with him. He then has to try and save their friendship, before things become irreversible.
As their relationship reaches new levels, Burble decides to make the decision to move out of his apartment, and into Anthony's home. Now, everyone has to get accustomed to their new "family" dynamics, when the house becomes more crowded than ever.
During a routine procedure, Dakota accidentally injures a young patient. This causes him to have a mental breakdown, and leads to him deciding to abruptly quit the practice, and possibly dentistry altogether. Archie, Anthony, and Teddy then have to convince him that accidents happen, and try to raise the spirits of their friend enough to get him to come back to the team where he belongs.
While Cooper and Koda go on a walk around the hospital grounds, they come across an injured raccoon hiding in the bushes. They carry him inside, and realize he has significant injuries that require surgical intervention. However, there's just one problem... no one is available to take the case. So, they decide to take on the challenge... by themselves.
An incident at the hospital leads to Kevin being directly involved with the loss of a patient. This leads to him not only being fired from his duties by The Board, but also facing a malpractice lawsuit that could land him in jail. It's up to Anthony to help save his father's livelihood, and (try to) defend his honor, before things get too far out of hand.
Max goes to All Species to get a sore tooth checked out, which leads to him reliving flashbacks from a traumatic previous experience when he was just a pup. He then has to learn to conquer his fear and get the treatment he needs, being supported by Anthony, Teddy, and the rest of their friends along the way.
Butch has an incdient one day with a younger pateint, leading him to act out of frustration and bite the patient. This ends up causing him to be suspended from his duties, and also leads to legal issues surrounding his parole, leaving both his job and his freedom in serious jeopardy.
After containing her feelings for years, Jackie finally decides to express her love for Charlie... which leads to a massive amount of friction between her, Daniel, and the kids. The incident ultimately leaves the family in a precarious and seemingly shattered state, and Charlie is caught right in the middle of it.
After weeks of volunteering at the hospital, and learning more about medicine from the rest of the team, Cooper gets an offer from Gerald to begin a surgical residency program, and continue his education in medical school.
Burble decides to suggest a weekend getaway with Anthony, to get their minds off work for a few days. However, what Anthony doesn't realize is that he's planning a surprise that will leave him shocked, speechless, and very emotional.
